October Vibes: Ardenwood Historic Farm

Ardenwood Historic Farm

Fremont, CA

Hello October,

Today me and Erik found this historical gem not to far from home. Ardenwood Historic Farm. The overall experience is like taking a time machine back into the 1850's. The property was originally owned by George and Clara Patterson, known for "striking gold" in the fertile farming business. The property was later turned over to the city of Fremont in the 1900's and has become a turn of century in farming.

The entrance fee for special events: $8 for adults, and $6 for non special occasions. To get into the spirit of upcoming holidays the farm was holding a harvest festival for the weekend. With acres of property the farm had many little activities around for anyone to enjoy. This is probably one of the reason why I loved it so much here, family friendly and the history behind this farm makes this place a total gem to me.

Some of the few activities we we're able to check out we're creating a Cork Husk Doll ( When I immediately saw this I though, VOODOO DOLL!), Cider Pressing, Train Rides, Magic Shows, Farm Animal Feeding, Bluegrass Music and of course a house tour of the Patterson Home.

But the best part of the farm to me besides the beautiful home of the Patterson's is the Corn Harvest. The few hundreds of acres of the corn field would be used year-round for animal feed but for also visitors to take home and enjoy. At first I had no idea what I would do with all this corn since I wasn't much of a Martha Stewart DIY person. But I thought taking a few would be wonderful for my preschoolers to enjoy. The experience of picking and husking your corn was really fun if you don't mind scavenger hunting for the best corns. After reading up about it Indian Corn can actually be eaten, popcorn popping style or simple autumn decorations.

Also don't forget to check out their pumpkin patch across the farm this time of year. We unfortunately didn't grab pumpkins their this year, but was able to experience it last year. The pumpkin patch does have another entrance fee (Cash Only), but the deals for pumpkins will do no damage to your wallets friends. Overall this little historical gem is something worth seeing, me and Erik have decided to make Harvest Festival a yearly October tradition for us.

Until the next adventure.

Ciao, Chrystal
