Mini Trip: Point Reyes, CA

Hello Loves,

Happy February! My favorite month has finally approached us! ( Birthday Month ^_^* hehe). What other way to celebrate my birthday then traveling, typical me. As a early celebration Erik opt to take me to Point Reyes, California for a day trip. Only an hour an a half outside of San Francisco. ( Up to 2 hours during traffic hours).

On the drive towards Point Reyes, expect amounts of landscape views you'll forget your still in California. Also expect unplugging and disconnecting to technology for a bit because you will have no service what so ever when deep into Point Reyes. I found this actually a positive thing something I appreciate the most is: Quality Time, and you'll definitely get tons of that weather with your family, friends or significant other to simply admire the beauty of nature.

Destination: Point Reyes Light House, CA

Since making this trip a day trip Erik and I we're not able to check out many popular spots, but the spots we did check out did take up the whole day. Our first stop was the beautiful Point Reyes Lighthouse. When heading to the visitor center you'll be able to explore the seashore. Traveling to the lighthouse the roads are restricted from using automobiles, but fortunately the center offers bus shuttles for ($7) to drive you to light house and Chimney Rock which is about 15-20 min away from the center. Buses come every 15-20 minutes so you don't have to worry about the wait. From the bus stop be prepared to take a half mile walk up to get to your destination. When in sight another visitor center you get a glimpse of a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean and the lighthouse at the cliff.  (* Bring binoculars to a glimpse of some whale watching)

There is a second alternative to visiting the lighthouse up close and personal, bring your walking shoes because it will take you 307 steps down to the cliff to reach your destination. ( Pro: the stairs down have a couple mid way sections for those who need to take a step to the side and catch their breath). Going down was breeze and totally worth seeing the beautiful lighthouse, going up I did have to step to the side a few times. Unfortunately we didn't make the stop to Chimney Rock due to some pain from my wisdom teeth removal. But some things to expect is sea lion watching and/ or tide pool exploring. This time of year the tide pools are close due to mating season of sea lions and little pups being born in the spring.

Destination: Point Reyes Cypress Tree Tunnel, CA

On the route back home and 10 min away from the lighthouse you'll see the gorgeous Cypress tree Tunnel. It's worth the stop for a instagram worthy photoshoot. The location name basically says it all a tunnel full of beauty especially during golden hours!

My day was full of quality time and being with nature a few things I cherish in my life, Point Reyes is definetely a destination to check out and worth exploring again in the near time future.

Some things to prepare for this trip:

1. Dress comfy and warm - expect a lot of wind and walking

2. Prepare Lunch/ Snacks - since we didn't have any service it's best to pack something to munch on or ask a local what are some best places to eat at.

3. Cameras - You'll definelty wanna capture some moments here!

4. Get A Head Start - Many people come from all over just to see these gems, getting a head start may help you dodge the tourists.

Until the next adventure.

Ciao,

Chrystal
